Nicodemus was a man of mature years when he met Jesus. He could probably trace his family line back to the twelve tribes of Israel and likely describe himself as a descendant of Abraham. He tries to find out who Jesus is. Where has he come from? Is he a true descendant of Abraham. He’s not from round here! Is he from God? What a crazy idea!
Nicodemus was privileged to be the first to hear Jesus famous words:-
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
This is the amazing truth. God loves us all, each one of us. God loves you so much he chose to give Jesus in exchange for you. And he holds out the promise of eternal life, citizenship of the Kingdom of God, to all who want to receive it.
When we believe and put our faith in Jesus we know from that point on we will not perish but will have eternal life. We belong to him. We are spiritually connected. And that new life within us gives us everything we need for the next steps in this journey of life.
