“Jesus said ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear… Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field… will he not much more clothe you?” (Matthew 6:25-30)
Nowadays, worry has become so crippling that we call it anxiety. So, when we are faced with difficult and testing times, and Jesus says ‘don’t worry’ what should we do?
Our worries are real, however trivial they might seem to others, however over-whelming the feel to us. But like Jesus, we can look at creation and learn from nature around us. Take time to listen to the birdsong, to marvel at a wild flower or to notice a rainbow. To breathe. Look for the good things that God has made. Be reminded of God’s provision and intentions for us. It’s now scientifically proven that spending time in the natural world is good for the soul. So, there is real truth in Jesus’ words and advice:- to consider and ponder, and to seek God in within that moment.
