Thought of the week – All Saints Day

What is a saint? A saint is someone who firstly hears about Jesus, about his life, death on the cross and resurrection to new life. Secondly they believe this message contains good news, that it contains truth and points the way to a new life. Thirdly they choose to trust Jesus and begin a new relationship with God through him, which is sealed by the Holy Spirit.

‘Saint’ is another word for Christian. All believers are God’s saints on earth and we are called to try and be like Jesus’, to love like he loved. He once told us: it’s no good just loving those who love us. Instead, this is the requirement of a saint:-

“to love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who ill-treat you.”

(Luke 6:27-28)

Let us pray the Holy Spirit gives us the strength to love others even when it’s hard, even when we’re not loved in return.
