Safeguarding Sunday
Things are always changing so where can we find certainty and security? Psalm 91 is a psalm of assurance which reminds us of what God is like. Only God never changes and only God can be relied upon to always be there.
“My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust… his faithfulness is a shield and buckler… I will be with them in trouble.” (Psalm 91:2, 4, 15)
Sometimes, in this life, trouble comes, we can’t avoid it, sometimes life will be hard. God doesn’t swoop down and rescue us like Superman. Instead God says ‘I am with you’. When trouble comes we can ask God to be our refuge and fortress, to keep us safe and guard our life, to bring us through the difficult times.
If God is our refuge and safe place then let us offer that to others. Let us be like a shield and proactively protect people from harm. And may we walk with those who are in trouble, by taking them seriously and knowing where to go for them to find the help they need.
